Grandmother Was Quite A Girl
She was born in 1915. She learned how to raise cows in the countryside and then how to drive a car when the family moved to town. After earning a BA from Lenoir-Rhyne College, she went on to be one of the first students to do post graduate work in the then-new sociology department at UNC-Chapel Hill. In 1963, she lost her husband to a heart attack but continued to live an amazing life – doing social work, teaching, raising five children, singing in her church choir, playing the violin, traveling to exotic places like the Middle East in 1972 and growing an amazing garden that her granddaughter loved to explore. She loved and was loved by so many that she lived a long life at 96 years old. Grandmother was quite a girl….I’ll miss her.
