Grandmother Was Quite A Girl

She was born in 1915. She learned how to raise cows in the countryside and then how to drive a car when the family moved to town. After earning a BA from Lenoir-Rhyne College, she went on to be one of the first students to do post graduate work in the then-new sociology department at UNC-Chapel Hill. In 1963, she lost her husband to a heart attack but continued to live an amazing life – doing social work, teaching, raising five children, singing in her church choir, playing the violin, traveling to exotic places like the Middle East in 1972 and growing an amazing garden that her granddaughter loved to explore. She loved and was loved by so many that she lived a long life at 96 years old. Grandmother was quite a girl….I’ll miss her.

Need a new design...

Haven't quite got an idea for a new look for my blog but will keep working on it. If you've got any good ideas, send 'em my way!

Anyway, thought I'd let you see my set-up over here!

Here's my room!

There's me...

That Monet skin I picked out for my laptop matches nicely with my room!
(You can see a bit of my bathroom there to the right)

Love my lil alcove :)

Life in London...

Well...I'm here! I arrived last Wednesday morning and have since learned to drive on the other side of the road, been to the Tate Modern and mostly cured myself of jetlag. The weather is as expected...much colder than NC. The sun has been playing a serious game of peek-a-boo since I arrived and I wish it would make up its mind and go to bed on time! There was still light outside at 9 p.m. last night and I'm told that it will set even later as we get into June. That will be an interesting adjustment. I might need to get a sleep mask!

Revival? Let's hope...

I'm going to try to revive this lil blog...just need to change a few things I suppose because 1) not living in Korea anymore and 2).....well I guess it's just 1 reason. Anyway, going to try to make more of an effort! If I'm going to get any good at this writing thing, I've got to practice!

Luckily, I'll be over in the Land of the Brits this summer so I'll have lots of new material fairly soon!

Ticket booked for May 10th through August 17th. I think that's enough time to figure out if I could put up with cold, rainy weather, dry humor (humour) obssessive tea-drinkers on a daily basis....at least long enough to invest a year in studying the amazing theatre culture of Shakespeare's birthland.

Thought I'd post a little pic from China. This is the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall.
